Monthly Mini Porn Issue 11

A very brief selection this month, as I have spent less time than usual browsing the web. These are a few miniatures currently not available through Kickstarter, just the usual channels!

Crooked Claw miniatures are building up a collection of classic goblin sculpts, very nice for skirmish games or to add variety to your armies.

Possible foes for the goblins, or maybe reinforcements for chaos dwarf generals, are these Fallen Dwarves by Miniatures of the North, available on the Anvil Industries site.

If dwarfs and goblins are too small for your tastes, try this for size! Andreas Miniatures are selling a 54 mm scale Carthaginian Elephant and crew.

Last but definitely not least, Spartan Games continue to release more models for their Dystopian Legions range. If I could find an opponent, I would buy these minis in an instant, they really are blowing my mind. These are from the Britannia range, Knights Templar and a crusty old colonel in his steam-powered bath chair!

Monthly Mini Porn Issue 10

When I started this little series, I had no idea it would last this long. Issue 10 here already, I feel like it should be a special event of some kind, but in the end I decided to avoid gimmicks and just show more of the minis I would love to own. These are all "boutique" minis in my eyes, superlative examples by just two sculptors.

Thunderbolt Mountain minis is the home of the sculptor Tom Meier. These elves and goblins capture a beautiful aesthetic that is sadly missing from so many other ranges.

As a fan of the art of Arthur Rackham, I have been watching the output of Mannikin Studios with great interest. These two sculpts are by Jody Siegel.

By the same sculptor are these rather fine goblins, available at Imbrian Arts

I can't imagine using these figures in a wargame, they are such fine sculpts that they demand to be painted to the highest display standard. Maybe one day I will try to do them justice..........

Monthly Mini Porn Issue 9

I am primarily a fantasy and historicals fan, but over the summer months I have been looking around at sci-fi minis. I wanted to find more figures I might be able to use in the upcoming Studio McVey Sedition Wars game, but I was also inspired by a trio of summer films: Prometheus, Total Recall and Dredd. A common thread among this little lot, if one exists, is that they are "hard-fi" rather than space opera - human centric rather than bugs and aliens.

The now-defunct AT-43 was a game system released by Rackham, the figures coming pre-painted. It completely slipped under my rader a few years ago, I wonder why it never took off, some of the figures are stunning?

Antenocitis Workshop make a growing range of modern combat/near future figures and vehicles and scenery that are well worth checking out.

In a similar style is this limited edition recent release by Studio McVey.

Dreamforge Games have recently run a successful kickstarter campaign (well, these days, who hasn't!) and are working on some Eisenkern stormtroopers.

If you need some slightly bigger boots on the ground, mantic are releasing some tasty looking enforcers in the near future, in a galaxy not too far away!

That's it for this sci-fi issue. When my copy of Sedition Wars arrives I will have dozens of figures to paint up, but it's always nice to dream about how it could develop.

Monthly Mini Porn Issue 8

Over the past month or so I have been contemplating which direction to take in collecting a Saga Warband. As part of that research I have looked at many historical miniatures, the most notable of which form the majority of this month's issue.

Some historical minis are pretty basic, but these Saxon leaders from Musketeer Miniatures can hold their heads high. Lovely sculpts and almost certain to become the major characters in my Saxon force.

There are hundreds of larger scale miniatures, well known among painters but perhaps less by gamers. This first pair are from Romeo Models.

The last hairy old warrior is another Saxon, this one from Latorre Models.

Coverage of the GenCon show provides the last set of mini porn for this month. These are concepts rather than minis, but a few blurry pics of the actual models seem to match them pretty well. Produced by Spartan Games for a new, upcoming 28mm steampunk wargame called Dystopian Legions, definitely one to watch.

Monthly Mini Porn Issue 7

Each month I feature some of the minis that have caught my attention in the recent past, minis that one day I might get to own and paint. In the meantime, I just look and admire them from afar.

Regular readers will know of my fondness for dwarf minis, so no prizes for guessing they would feature yet again in my monthly motley collection of minis. The surprising thing about these from Copplestone Castings is that they are just 15mm in scale. Lovely design and detail, makes me want to start gaming at this scale.

Imagine these figures, small as they are, combined with these scenic bits from Scibor Miniatures. Regiments of tiny dwarfs fighting in a landscape dominated by gigantic stone statues of their ancestors, it would make a wonderful spectacle.

But who would the dwarfs fight? Again, Copplestone Castings have some potential enemies in their barbarians range. This is one set of mini porn I am seriously considering laying down my cash for!

That's it for this issue, short and sweet you might say, but nothing else has got me excited this month.

Monthly Mini Porn Issue 6

This month we get back to normal service, looking at a variety of minis available from some of the lesser known manufacturers, with a return to the classic fantasy staples of elves, orcs and undead.

The Russian Alternative is a new mini company from, er, Russia. These elves are very nice, but make sure you check out the website for a look at their chaos marauders too. A small range but very promising, they just need a major distributor to step in and help them.

These Wargames Factory orcs are a nice change from the usual cartoon grinning gorillas.

Would you like some giant bipedal snapping maws for your orc and goblin army? Have a look at these, from Raccolor Art.

Undead gamers have a good choice of alternatives when it comes to character models. I have featured Enigma Miniatures before, but their range is so good that I keep going back to them. Here are a pair of figures that would make lovely wight kings.

And finally, if it's wraiths you seek, then check out these from Otherworld Miniatures. They also make some of the finest skeletons in the business, if you don't mind the expense of metal figures.

Monthly Mini Porn Issue 5

This month's issue is dedicated to just one manufacturer. These figures have been wowing me for the past few weeks, since they were unveiled at the Salute show in London. They are from a new company called Hawk Wargames, designed for an upcoming 10mm sc-fi game called Dropzone Commander.

There are four factions, these are sample vehicles from the United Colonies of Mankind. I am getting a real Thunderbirds vibe from these figures!

The next race is the Post-Human Republic, presumably an offshoot/progression from the humans. The angular lines are gone and replaced by smooth curves. Now I am thinking Captain Scarlett!

The Scourge are an alien race, presumably with a name like that they are the bad guys. There's a real nice organic/sea creature feel to these models. Is the designer a Gerry Anderson fan I wonder, this being a nod to Stingray?

Finally there's the mysterious Shaltari Tribes. An insectoid race of aliens?

Remember, these are 10mm scale. The level of detail is astonishing. And they have been designed to actually fit together if you want them to, like this picture shows. Quite incredible!

If you want to see all the pictures released to date then visit the Hawk Wargames facebook page. I am eagerly awaiting more details on the game, prices and the like. This is one set of mini porn that I reckon will be impossible for me to resist. My main difficulty is choosing a faction, they all have different appeals.
